This page gives you an overview of the projects that Paravan Industry has completed. The variety demonstrates the flexibility and variability of our adaptive system solutions in the field of the drive-by-wire and steer-by-wire systems or even in the construction of experimental vehicles and prototypes for semi-automated or fully automated driving.

Four Audi Q7's for China

In China, we outfitted four Audi Q7’s with our fail-safe and street legal, drive by wire system by Space Drive.  The main computer module was neatly installed in the vehicle interior.  In addition, a back-up battery for the secondary power supply system was also integrated into the vehicle.

Autonomous VAN Future Study

We have equipped this future study of a Daimler AG van with state-of-the-art drive-by-wire technology made by Paravan. As a result, the vehicle can be controlled via joystick or, if desired, autonomously.

Steer-by-wire test and test carrier

For ZF, we have integrated our steer-by-wire solution Space Drive into a test and experimental vehicle. In addition, we have provided a defined CAN interface. The advantage: There are no restrictions on the control function.

Adas-vehicle for Visteon

For an Adas vehicle, we have integrated our systems for the primary and secondary vehicle functions. Our drive-by-wire system controls gas, brake and steering. Interfaces are 2 x CAN which we individualized and provided with a personalized access. Via another CAN interface, we can select the secondary functions turn signals, light, windscreen wipers via our configuration tool.

Showcar for the IAA in Frankfurt

For a leading car manufacturer, we participated in the realization of a self-driving show car for the international automobile exhibition 2018 in Frankfurt. The study was equipped with our digital and fail-safe Space Drive technology. In addition, the Paravan drive-by-wire system has been extended with a remote function. The concept car demonstrates how autonomous driving could make car sharing even more convenient, easier and more economical in the future. The vision of urban mobility in the future - it is the most radical car sharing concept car of all:  fully autonomous, maximum communicative, friendly, fully customizable and, of course, electric.

Autonomous Technology in the Smallest of Spaces

A small fleet of Renault Twizzy’s,  rebuilt and equipped with state-of-the-art redundant Paravan drive-by-wire technology Space Drive.  In the interior of the modifications there is nothing unusual to see.  At the push of a button however, the Twizzy can switch into an autonomous driving mode.

 

High End Test Vehicle for Autonomous Driving in Austria

In this Jeep Grand Cherokee, we have implemented the latest autonomous driving technology.  In the future, the experimental vehicle will be used to display a wide variety of driving and driving scenarios right through to autonomous driving in level 5. For this purpose, we have integrated our digital steer-by-wire and drive-by-wire system Space Drive in the vehicle. We also installed the sensors in the vehicle and coupled them with our system via specially programmed interfaces.

 

Semi-autonomous project "SAM-Car"

Is it really possible to drive a Corvette ZR06 simply by moving one’s head? Sam Schmidt, a former Indy-car driver who became a paraplegic when he had a severe accident during a race, says yes you can. Ultramodern technology from the USA and Germany makes it possible. In a cooperative project by the US electronics experts at Arrow Industries and the Swabian drive-by-wire specialists at Paravan, a Corvette ZR06 is converted and reconstructed so that Sam Schmidt can control the 650-HP racing car safely around a racetrack by means of minute head movements.

Project OLLI: self-propelled minibus

In a joint project of different partners under the leadership of the US company Local Motors located in Phoenix, the self-propelled vehicle project 'Olli' became a reality and was presented to the public in Washington on June 17 th , 2016

'Olli' is a self-propelled (autonomous) mini bus for future passenger transport in urban areas (airports, industrial sites, amusement parks, railway stations) that can accommodate up to 12 people comfortably. Responsible for the project is the American company Local Motors. Together with seven partners from around the world, 'Olli' was equipped with the most pioneering technologies for autonomous driving of the future. Thanks to the innovative system Paravan Space Drive, the most diverse sensor and GPS data is bundled in the vehicle and processed absolutely fail safe forwarded to sophisticated servo motors to control gas, braking and steering movements.

Project: Showcar OEM 2016 with Space Drive

Space Drive inside - Next generation mobility

For a major German automotive group Paravan,  the realization of autonomous or semi-autonomous driving showcar, the fail-safe (fail operational) drive-by-wire system Space Drive II contribute. The certified according to ISO 26262 ASIL D system redundant control of the primary functions of throttle, brake and steering is ensured. The forward-looking concept vehicle can find sensor-controlled completely independently its way through the traffic. Has the driver, however, the desire to actively drive themselves, so works out of the dashboard a futuristic steering wheel without steering column, through which the driver can enter the steering commands to the vehicle "by-wire" (wired).

Autonomous test vehicles: BMW I3 with the Fraunhofer Institute

Realization of a self-navigating test vehicle based on a BMW I3 at the Fraunhofer Institute. The Paravan GmbH implemented the fail-safe drive-by-wire system Space Drive II to control the primary functions accelerator, brake and steering. In addition, the extensive sensor was installed in the vehicle. With a specially adapted Paravan software package, communication between the sensors and Space Drive II system was implemented.

 

 

Autonomous driving project of an international automotive supplier

This unique project involved installing the sensors of an international automotive supplier in an experimental vehicle for autonomous and semi-autonomous driving. An additional processing unit for processing the extensive amount of data entailed was installed in the rear of the vehicle and then linked to the drive-by-wire system Space Drive II from Paravan. In autonomous driving mode, the ASIL D-certified system takes over control of the primary functions – acceleration, braking and steering – in a fail-safe way.

 

Electric mobility with high-tech Force Feedback Steering

Based on a Roding Roadster prototype with electric drive and fail-safe steer-by-wire steering system, force feedback function was realized in a joint project (inter alia, Siemens). Concerning the steering operation, the steering signals are digitized and forwarded to the Paravan Space Drive system. From there, the signals go failsafe (fail operational) continue to servomotors that are installed directly on the steering gear. A mechanical steering column is no longer necessary.

Car of the future Rinspeed "XChange"

The Swiss automotive visionary, Frank M. Rinderknecht shows the way things are heading for automated driving in his latest study, "XChange". The electric vehicle with Space Drive technology is fascinating as one drives totally relaxed whilst the car negotiates the road safely and independently. Steer yourself – no problem. The digital steering wheel can be operated from the driver's seat or from the passenger seat. A hand movement is all it takes to change the position.

Road sweepers: Smart roadster with joystick

We developed this eye-catcher on the roads with Prof Spiegelberg from the Munich Institute of Science & Technology. At the time, it was the first road-approved drive-by-wire vehicle. You would be wasting your time trying to find the steering wheel and pedal in this roadster. All the main functions (acceleration, braking, steering) are controlled via an integrated digital joystick. This model even supports independent driving thanks to radio remote control.

Digital E-Flitzer: Rinspeed UC1

Space Drive technology is facilitating entirely new concepts for driving compartments and interiors. One of the most innovative examples is the "Rinspeed UC 1" electric car from the Swiss car manufacturer, Rinderknecht. The urban runaround, which is only 2.5 m long, is digitally steered, accelerated, and braked using a joystick; it has a 120 km range.

Remote control in hazardous areas: Holder special vehicle

The municipal mower is one of many special vehicles fitted with digital Space Drive technology that is in daily use. In future, the driver will steer and operate the vehicle from a safe distance via remote control In hazardous zones, e.g. on banks and slopes. The same system, using a different configuration, is also in use in piste groomers.
